Community Notice: Help Prevent Future Sewer Shut Offs
Attawapiskat First Nation is asking all community members to help protect our sewer system by being mindful of what is flushed down toilets and poured into drains. To help prevent blockages, sewer backups, equipment damage and service interruptions, please only flush toilet paper and human waste. Items such as paper towels, rags or cloths, baby wipes, cleaning wipes, feminine hygiene products, food scraps and other solid waste should never be flushed or put down drains.
Please also avoid pouring cooking oil and grease down sinks or toilets. Allow oil and grease to cool, then place them in an appropriate container for proper disposal. These materials can build up inside the sewer system and contribute to serious blockages.
By disposing of waste properly and being mindful of what goes down our toilets and drains, we can all help protect Attawapiskat’s sewer system, prevent costly problems and help keep our community’s water and wastewater services running. Together, we can help prevent future sewer shut offs and protect our community.
