Ontario Works
Ontario Works Department
The Ontario Works (OW) department at Attawapiskat First Nation is committed to supporting community members on their journey toward self-reliance. As a First Nation-administered program, we deliver essential financial and employment assistance in a way that respects and is tailored to the unique needs of our community.
Our team works directly with individuals and families to provide temporary support, helping them to meet their basic needs while they work toward finding employment and building a stable future.
Our Core Services
Our department provides a two-part approach to support:
- Financial Assistance: We offer temporary financial support to help cover the costs of basic needs like food and shelter. This assistance is designed to help you and your family during times of financial hardship.
-
- Employment Supports: We help people get ready for and find work. This includes helping with resumes, providing access to training opportunities, and offering supports to overcome barriers to employment. Our goal is to help you develop the skills and confidence needed to secure a job and achieve your goals.
How We Work
Our approach is different. Because our program is administered by the First Nation, we are able to provide support that is more accessible and culturally relevant. We work with you to create a personalized plan that considers your individual circumstances and the opportunities available within our community.
We are here to provide a helping hand and a pathway to a better future for our people.
